October 6 to October 13, 2026

Overview

This is a shorter, sweeter version of The Complete Himalayan – we’ll take you from the colourful valleys of Almora into the ancient oak forests of Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary. Then, we go further north towards the Kumaon Himalayas and come face to face with the country’s largest peaks (Nanda Devi, Nanda Kot, the Panchachulis, and more).

This is a limited-edition group journey that is happening this October. Join us!

Day-to-day itinerary

What's included

We look after you from the moment of your arrival at Delhi airport. Your holiday includes transfers and rail journeys to the hills, accommodation in the village guesthouses and at Khali Estate with all meals provided and your own guide through the hills. We have devised each of our holidays to provide a good balance between activity and relaxation; please feel free to tailor your holiday to your exact requirements.

This holiday is designed for a limited group size of 6 people and includes a personal guide throughout your stay. This is a fixed departure holiday. Check out the day-to-day itinerary below.

Arrive at Khali Estate for a fabulous sunset and a quiet evening overlooking Almora. Indulge in a Kumaoni welcome dinner. Spend the night in a double room garden bungalow.

After breakfast, meet the team and the guide who will be accompanying you. Today you begin your scenic walk towards one of the most beautiful villages you’ll ever encounter. Spend the night in a comfortable village guesthouse. The sounds of the forest at night are mesmerising.

Have a leisurely breakfast. Spot some of Binsar’s birds from the verandah. On the first day, you start your journey by going in our car to the bottom of the village of Supi. This is a 5 hour journey, so we will stop for lunch en route.

Begin your ascent to the village proper, passing several traditional homes and the many small farms that dot the slopes.

Relax and eat an early dinner after settling into the Supi guesthouse. On a clear day, you will see the tip of Kautela’s peak as it looks into the valley.

Spend the next morning exploring this idyllic village and meeting its people. There are many friends to make along the way.

Start walking early the next morning after breakfast. Pass immense rhododendron forests and golden meadows to reach Jaikuni Bugyal. Tonight you stay in a safari-style tented camp. From this vantage point, you can gaze openly at the Himalayas staring right back at you. Jaikuni is perched on the ridge separating the Saryu and Pindar valleys.

After breakfast and some more mountain gazing, walk toward the Pindar valley and reach the village of Dhurr. The village holds many stories and corners to explore.

Post breakfast, walk to the roadhead where our car will be waiting to take you back to Khali Estate.

Spend the final evening by the fireside. Puran da’s hot rotis are waiting in the dining area.

Transfer to Kathgodam in time to catch the day train to Delhi. We can host you in a comfortable guesthouse overnight so you can recalibrate to your urban surroundings. We can also arrange for your transfer to the airport as we bid you a fond farewell.

Where you'll stay

The villages of Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary

With Village Ways you stay in very special village guesthouses – ‘village homestays’ –  owned and managed by the village committee and benefitting the wider community. Enjoy life at the heart of a village, without feeling that you are intruding in anyone’s home.

In Binsar, the guesthouses are simple and comfortable, built in traditional style by the communities of Risal, Dalar, Kathdhara, Gonap, and Satri. They have a living/dining room, kitchen, four twin bedrooms and shared shower/WCs. Each village of Binsar will give you its own special welcome.

Khali Estate

Your stay in Binsar begins and ends at Khali Estate, a small family-run hotel steeped in history and an integral part of Village Ways. Your room is in one of the picturesque stone rondavel cabins set amongst the pine trees, clustered around a British Raj style house that was built by General Sir Henry Ramsay.

Villages in Saryu and Pindar

Similar to the hamlets in Binsar, stay in the gorgeous villages of Supi and Dhurr. We also have comfortable safari-style tents at the campsite in Jaikuni. In Jaikuni, there are dry pit toilets, but attached WCs in the village guesthouses.
