Starry Nights & Autumn Hues

Escape to Uttarakhand this October for a 7-day autumnal tryst with the Kumaoni hills. This is the ideal holiday for families and small groups.

10 October – 17 october, 2026
23 October – 30 October, 2026

Overview

Autumn transforms Binsar into a golden-hued forest. Wake up at Khali Estate as mist lifts slowly off the canopy, revealing a clear line of snow peaks that summer haze usually hides.

The forest floor turns amber and rust, rhododendron leaves crisp underfoot, and the air carries a sharp, woodsmoke chill by evening.

Spend your days walking trails through deodar and oak forest, spotting Himalayan monals, woodpeckers, and pheasants.

Visit a nearby Kumaoni village and watch households prepare for the cold ahead — grain drying on rooftops, wood stacked by doorways, terraced fields turning gold before harvest.

Evenings are perfect for stargazing from the estate deck, with the sunset turning skies pink and then vanishing into the dark. This is the season Kumaon slows down and every ridge and valley is visible.

Day-to-day itinerary

You stay in cosy rondavel cottages in Khali Estate, deep within the Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary. From here, go on forested trails – but there’s plenty to explore on the estate.

What's included

Start the holiday in bustling fashion by landing in New Delhi. Arrive at your guesthouse for the evening. We can recommend exciting new restaurants for dinner.

An early morning train takes you to Kathgodam. Upon arrival, our car will drive you to Khali Estate. Reach in time for sunset. Our team is waiting to greet you with tea, coffee, and snacks. Your holiday truly begins tonight under the starry skies. Sit by the fire in our common room before heading to your cottage for the night.

Start with an early morning estate walk. We’ll show you our old sundial, built
in the 1800s, facing the magnificent Himalayan peaks. Our team will take you through how the sundial
works. Tell time as they did back in the olden days to plan farming cycles and understand the mountain seasons. Join a game of cricket in the afternoon or walk in the sanctuary with a guide before lunch. After dinner, gather for stargazing.

Start the next day with and painting and candle-making workshop. Follow this with a light foraging adventure in the kitchen garden. We’ll help you pick vegetables for your meal. Learn a dish or two from the experts – some delectable vegetarian dishes and an Indian dessert. In the evening play board games by the fire.

Today, you hike through the glorious Binsar pine forest to experience the individual character and warm hospitality of the Binsar villages. Pack just for one night. You stay in one of the five villages and enjoy some wonderful walking with splendid views.
Optional: Stay in simple twin rooms in the village guesthouses with breakfast, picnic lunch, and dinner. Get to know the communities and experience the village walking.

Walk back to Khali Estate for one last night’s stay. From Khali, enjoy a trip to the nearby town of Almora to
explore the markets. Spend a day in the old bazaars, or visit the town of Kasar Devi, known for being a stop on the famous Hippie Trail of the sixties. Have an indulgent lunch in town before we bring you back for the evening.

Bid farewell to the hosts at Khali. We’ll drive you back to Kathgodam to catch the late morning Shatabdi to New Delhi.

Spend the final night of this journey in our Delhi guesthouse.
